In 1919, the first golf club in Taiwan was established on the hill near the Danshui estuary, and named “Danshui Golf Club”.  Local people called it “Danshui ball field”.  The location was originally the barracks of Huwei Fort.  There were only 6 courses at the time of establishment, and more were added later on.

During the 2nd World War, the Japanese troops dug many anti-tank trenches on the field.  Those trenches were paved and covered after the war.  In 1979, the number of courses was expended to 27.  Taiwan Golf Club was once ranked as one of the 50 most famous golf courses in the world.
